Drop In ... or Be Square

Spencer gave his farewell talk at church today, and did great! He had the whole congregation laughing and was very relaxed. As I watched him up there I couldn't help but think of how much he has grown and matured since I married Jacob. I always picture him as the little 15- or 16-year-old that he was when I first met him. But standing up there and giving such a wonderful talk - I couldn't think of him as the 'little boy' anymore. He has grown into such a wonderful young man. He is going to be such a great missionary. His talk was about taking care of the poor and the needy. Many people say he spoke more like a returned missionary than one just leaving.
After Sacrament, we left to drive to the Stake Center - where Spencer was set apart. The whole family was there (with the exception of Harley and his family), along with the Griggs and his best friend, Jared. The Stake President fit us all into his little office and gave a wonderful little talk about missions and being obedient. That was the main focus point: To be obedient in all that he did, even if the rules seemed stupid. He would be blessed for following them anyway. Also, to forget yourself and loose yourself in the work.
After being set apart, we all went back to Harry and Debbie's and had lunch and relaxed. His Drop In was from 6-8pm - and a lot of people showed up. At one point, the whole downstairs of the house was packed and it was hard to move around. It was obvious how very much Spencer is loved in the community - not only from his church family, but also friends that he worked with and knew growing up. After the majority of the visitors left, his close friends stayed longer and hung out. He had not even packed yet ...

  1. Spencer will be a great missionary! He did a wonderful job giving his farewell talk in which it was obvious that he loves our Father in Heaven, and His Only Begotten Son, Jesus Christ. He wants all of our Father's children to know our Savior and to invite them to come unto Him. He will study German for 9 weeks in the Missionary Training Center in Provo, Utah, and then he will be off to somewhere in Germany, Switzerland, Austria, or Liechtenstein to teach the people and invite them to come unto Christ.
